A Tasty Intern Meeting Summary

Here is a superbly written piece about one of our intern meetings from Neon! I apologize for the late post, but better late than never, eh? Can't you just hear the Neon tone as you read through this? :) Here it is:

Our last meeting, August 3^rd, was a landmark because there the two Robins at DMLF announced the shifting of roles, where our beloved Robin the writer who had led us for over a year stepped down and big music Robin stepped up. I feel lucky that I came on in time to know her as the director, because she inspired me to manifest the work of philanthropy out in the real world where I wasn't sure it was possible. Sadly we didn't get enough funds together for her to be able to stay on full-time.

We introduced some new, and old interns at the meeting, all of which I think are about to increase the heat at our organism of an organization to attract the audiences and money that comes along with the attention through our work, our community involvement and our innovative soulutions to meet our dire collective needs. We the people, we are the one's to take it into our hands, and at DMLF the following interns presented themselves with who they are and what they do and what they can and would like to do:

Jesse – here for a couple of weeks now, is working on logos, branding, and is good at conducting meetings. He's the person to contact about learning versions of cool software. He works professionally as a freelancer with digital media, and is a part of the Cinematic Syndicate in Santa Cruz.

Max – loves writing, acting and directing-is involved with UCSC and got here just last week. (please correct me where I'm wrong.)

Scott W. - a college graduate who's a writer, currently adapting “Seven footprints to Satan,” into some form of digital media.

Matt – has been writing a horror script since June.

Ted -a graduate from CSU and B, is here with us since June, and is writing a script about robots. Ted knows a lot about music, and plays it, and can edit video, and is down to learn just about anything.

Sajeev – is new this week, works for Peace Pedalers logging clips, really likes directing and editing, and he knows Photoshop and Illustrator.

Marc – here since end of April, has been working tirelessly and enthusiastically on Peace Pedalers, and is a part of the post production team in assembling the promotional video together with Feron and Chuck.

Jason – Is on his way to College in San Francisco and has been here since June working on graphics both for the DMLF logo and for Feron's show, Subculture Television.

Alex – this guy is going off to Chapman College to study TV and media, and is here working on Peace Pedalers, SC Live, and is now working to make the DMLF documentary. He likes to edit and loves to learn new things.

Eric - here since the end of June, is writing a humorous tv series about intern life.

Brendan – here since last week, works on Peace Pedalers, likes potato chips, logging, knows Photoshop, Illustrator, and film editing (Final Cut) and is learning After Effects.

Connor – came in March, back since July, knows how to edit and is currently working on a veterans show with Chuck.

Robin – directed DMLF for a year. Says she has enjoyed this, loves to listen to what the interns want to do, and loves to enable us to go through with it. She's had an awesome summer and is now stepping down, becoming an advisor and consultant. The fact that she's still involved makes me relieved. She said that the leadership has always been the collective of interns themselves. She will now be working on how to connect us all to the greater Santa Cruz.

Big Robin- taught music for 14 years, here at DMF for a year. He sees digital media as the future in a major way, and he's learning about it right along side us interns. A main goal of his is to build an industry of it here in Surf City.

ADDTIONALY, James T was here conducting the meeting, but had to leave to shoot a production. James has been here since the beginning of the summer, and made several projects including a commercial for the summer youth employment program, which he got in on himself. James knows editing, filming, writing, acting and directing among a shit-ton of things. And he's handsome enough!

Also there Shannon – here since about the beginning of summer, works on Peace Pedalers and knows how to draw well. She's the person facilitating this blog, so thanks Shannon. She has a Vimeo account and other cool knowledge, and went to school in Santa Barbara.

I, Neon, was obviously there, taking us all in, and I work for Peace Pedalers and have done some work in development of the show to the latin world, bringing the story of Don Quixote into the picture. I am good at filming, and I'm learning how to edit, and I enjoy writing and otherwise pouring my love and energy into the collective. I'm a visionary. I go to Cabrillo and study journalism, dance, and theater directing.

More about the meeting: James T wanted us to help him come up with a name for the event taking place in September that will conenct us to the community. It's been called 'The Foundation Event” for now, but I think we could all brain and heart-storm together to come up with something specialer.

There was also a request to get some information about peace pedalers for this blog. Marc, you seem to know your Peace Pedalers inside and out, would you ask to get us something when it's ready?

I came up with something of a name for the foundation event: The eggman event. Or simply, “I am the Walrus.” Come to “I am the Walrus,” and check out what all the local filmakers are doing!

DMLF Documentary In the Works!

The DMLF Documentary is in the works! Start thinking bout your interview answers, Alex is coming round with the questions! Here is a copy of the email he sent out with the questions:

Hey everybody,

Starting this week I will be filming for a short documentary about DMLF which will showcase our talents and describe how DMLF benefits local non-profits, businesses, and people with ideas. Over the following two weeks I would like to interview all of the interns about their experience here. Here are some of the questions that I will be asking in the interview. Please think about how you would like to answer these questions. Also, please let me know when you are at DMF and the best available times for you.

What initially drew you to interning at DMLF?

What projects have you developed while at DMLF? What are you currently working on?

What would you describe to be the main goal of DMLF?

One of the main aspects of DMLF is the community relationships. How does DMLF benefit the community here in Santa Cruz?

Describe the facilities at DMF and what kind of opportunities it supplies?

Mentorship is a key mission at DMF. How do you think mentorship has aided your growth in digtal arts?

What are your future plans/longterm goals? How has interning at DMLF at aided maintained your future plans?
